Greg Urwin, professor of History at Temple University, is a military historian whose work spans the War of Independence through World War II. He earned his PhD from Notre Dame and taught at Saint Mary of the Plains College and the University of Central Arkansas before joining Temple in 1999. In addition to publishing 9 books, most recently Victory in Defeat: The Wake Island Defenders in Captivity 1941-1945, he has lectured at the US Naval Academy, the US Military Academy, the Army Military Institute, US Naval Museum, National World War Two Museum, American Philosophical Society, Fort Ticonderoga and the Army War College.


He is also Senior Fellow of the Center for the Study of America and the West, former president of the Society for Military History, a fellow in both the Company of Military Historians and the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies and general editor of the Campaigns and Commanders Series from University of Oklahoma Press. He has also appeared on numerous documentaries and assisted in making the making the Civil War epic Glory.
